Board of Directors

The HSDR is made up of a Volunteer Board of Directors. The Board of Directors directs the local operations of the Society and work cooperatively with the shelter staff to provide humanitarian services to the local animal population.

The following are the profiles of the Board of Directors for the Humane Society of Durham Region:

  

Len Butticci 

 

 

Len is an animal lover, having 3 dogs of his own, and he is a major supporter of the Humane Society of Durham Region (HSDR).

In addition to being a regular monthly personal and corporate donor, Len serves as Volunteer Board Member and Chair for the HSDR.

Len is the President and CEO of DataSource Technologies Inc., a successful insurance services company.

Len has a proven history of successfully building Management Teams that are driven to succeed.  Len’s strengths include: Executive Team Building, Organizational Management, Finance, Strategic Planning and Organizational Focus.

Len has donated many hours of time, money, expertise, equipment and assistance over the past number of years in an effort to help the HSDR improve its operations across all areas of the organization.    Len is willing and able to continue donating his time as a Board Member and Fundraising Committee Member in an effort to build on the significant successes.

The strategic focus of the Board will continue to include responsible fiscal policy, continuing improvements to all aspects of the HSDR including animal care, rescues, fund raising and marketing.  Len wants to grow the HSDR to many times its current size by attracting the kind of funding, governance and best practices that are required across the organization.

Douglas Edwards

 

Doug is CEO and founder of ES3™, an industry leading TV technology company with its headquarters in Ontario’s Durham Region. Over the past 11 years, Doug has turned ES3 into an award-winning TV technology business. Due to his love of animals, especially those who are in need of care, Doug decided to dedicate a large portion of his professional experience and time to help the HSDR. 

Over the past year as an HSDR Board member, Doug has been a dedicated volunteer as the Communications and Technology and Facilities lead in addition to a Board member. Through these efforts Doug has propelled the organization forward on many fronts, including more effective, safe shelter operations, enhanced communications with the community and to drive fundraising revenue higher than ever before using today’s technologies.

 

Cindy Bennett

 

Cindy has been a volunteer with HSDR for 12 years and has spent many hours in the shelter helping out with numerous fundraisers over the years, including the golf tournaments, dances, Pause for our Paws, and Pet Pictures with Santa. In addition, Cindy is proud to have fostered over 120 animals, helping to get them healthy enough to find their forever home. Cindy is retired from a career in banking and is grateful to have found an organization that is so close to her heart!

 

Frank Auddino

 

Frank has been involved with special projects for the HSDR since 2006, and joined the board of Directors in December 2014. He spent the majority of his 35-year career as a strategic business development executive and a principal partner in a company owned with Rogers Media. He is currently the managing partner at Del Duca, Auddino and Associates, a firm specializing in assisting start-ups with funding and business development.

 

When Frank is not engaged in helping companies get funding and grow their business, he spends most of his time volunteering in the not for profit sector and social enterprises he cares most about– his community, youth, entrepreneur start-ups and four-legged friends…. Mentoring entrepreneurs at Spark Centre, UOT and Durham College; proud member of Rotary Whitby Sunrise Club and volunteer with St Vincent’s Kitchen; Angel investor; co-chair of Angel Investors Ontario (AIO) Marketing committee; member of Membership and Marketing committees with the National Angel Capital Organization (NACO); VP Start Up Durham; facilitating business summits with the Town of Whitby, City of Oshawa, Business Advisory Centre Durham, Ajax Pickering Board of Trade, and the Town of Ajax-and on Resource committee with Outfox magazine, created to empower kids with Autism.

 

Frank prides himself on being a well-rounded member of his community, both professionally and personally and resides in Ajax, Ontario, with his wife, Kim, and his best friends, Opal and Benny, two rescue cats.

 

Karen Koene

 

Since retiring as an elementary school teacher and assistive software trainer and consultant, Karen has devoted many hours to volunteering for animal welfare organizations, including the HSDR previously and an animal rescue group. Karen and her husband have had dogs all of their married life. They presently have 3, but have also fostered. Karen's family lives in Europe, which allows many opportunities to travel. She enjoys playing golf and loves spending time with her children, grandchildren, pets and volunteering to benefit animals.

 

Janine Turner

 

Janine Turner is an Executive Recruiter. She joined Mandrake in 2004 as a Consultant and was promoted to Vice President in 2009. Her corporate experience includes attracting and recruiting mid-senior level leadership talent, for private and public sector organizations. Janine’s professional career spans more than 30 years, in a variety of management roles, within retail, banking and the consumer products sector. she leads the PR/Corporate Communications practice and is a team member of the HR Practice and places top talent with PR Agencies, Corporations and Not-for-Profit (including professional services and cause related organizations) sectors. Janine is also a multimedia artisan and works in a variety of mediums. Over the years, Janine has been an active volunteer in her community and currently is a volunteer Board Director, with the Humane Society, Durham Region.
