COVID-19 (Corona Virus) UPDATE
The Humane Society of Durham Region has implemented updated procedures for the current lockdown due to the COVID 19 situation.
Since March, the HSDR is proud to have been able to continue assisting animals in need, while still offering services to the public following an appointment based and curbside model.
All adoptions will be contactless and by appointment until further notice. FOR ADOPTIONS:
We encourage anyone interested in adopting an animal to review all animals currently available for adoption on our adoption pages: For dogs click here, for cats click here, for small mammals click here. FOR ANIMAL INTAKES:

Animal intake appointments will continue to be booked following a curbside model, which will be explained to you during the intake appointment booking process. If you have an urgent intake concern, please call the shelter at 905-665-7430 ex 0 during the hours of 11am – 6pm 7 days a week.
FOR DONATIONS:
Donations of items/supplies can be dropped off at the shelter without making an appointment anytime between the hours of 11am – 6pm, 7 days a week. Kindly leave the donation of items outside the front doors of the shelter and our staff will bring them inside.
If you would like to make a monetary donation in person you can do so without an appointment during the hours of 11am – 6pm, 7 days a week. Kindly ring the doorbell at the front doors of the shelter and our shelter staff will assist you curbside. You are also able to make a donation over the phone. You can make a donation by cash, cheque, credit or debit. You can also make monetary donations online by clicking here.
FOR PET FOOD BANK SERVICES:
HSDR has been grateful to be able to offer pet food bank services for pets in need in our community and continues to do so.
If you would like to access our pet food, please call the shelter at 905-665-7430 ex 0 and let us know when you are able to come pick up the food. Kindly ring the doorbell or call the shelter when you arrive and your food will be brought out to you by one of our staff. Our foodbank hours of operation are 11am – 6pm Tuesday - Sunday.

Cat Spay/Neuter Voucher
This program is to benefit low income individuals. In order to qualify you must be a resident of Durham Region and be able to provide photo ID with address and also be receiving on of the following subsidized incomes:
• Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS)
• ODSP
• CPP Disability
• Ontario Works
• OVMA Safe Pet Program
In order to receive a voucher you must bring photo ID, proof of address and proof of government assistance.
Food Bank
We have a public food bank to assist those who are going through a tough time to help them feed their pets. Our food bank is available to be used once per month and is for short-term help. We distribute food and treats as needed and available. Since we rely on donation for our food supply, the quantity and type may vary each day. We do our best to distribute equally and fairly to everyone in need.
• A piece of Photo ID is required in order to access the food bank.
